Hospital Update

We are on the way home with Olivia. They did chest and abdominal x-rays on her. The chest x-ray looked fine, but her abdominal x-ray showed that she was constipated. They gave her a warm milk and molasses enema (OUCH) and told us she needed to hold it in for 5 minutes. Sure...ok...um...how? Anyway, she definitely went to the bathroom (hovering over the toilet because the doctor has to come look at it) and had a lot. She is still grunting, but doesn't seem to be in pain anymore. We are just supposed to keep an eye on her and bring her back if she's not better in 8-10 hours.

I hope Olivia is doing better! We have our fair share of rectal prolapse in this house too! I was told by an adult CFer that the prolapse itself deos not actually cause pain but the constipation does. Our poor babies should not have to go through this. You think they'll up her dosage of Miralax to keep her 'going?'

Hope you guys are holding up! Lucy and I are thinking "happy butt" thoughts for Olivia!

Poor Olivia! Reilly has never had that (knockin on serious wood!). Hope that she keeps passing it, so she doesn't get all stopped up!

Bless your hearts! Dwayne came home from work Monday and told me y'all had been at the hospital. He was a little worried. But then he came home from work last night with better news. Loved his animation while talking about Chris holding her over the toilet! Your husband has come a long way from holding drumsticks with his hands! *snicker* I guess the word 'relief' kinda 'ran its course' for everyone? LOL Just relish the moment. It's one of those 'normal' things the two of you got to experience. I remember my own little trip to ER with Lyndsey for the same problem. Not so funny at the time. Embarassed before leaving the hospital. Yet, one subject that none of us can help laughing about later! Went through the water with Karo syrup on many occasions. Sounds like you've got doctors that waste no time and just nipped it in the butt! Motherhood - yeah - has its moments! Just glad things are much better! - Teresa

I just got back to town and saw your post. Poor Olivia. I feel your pain. Even though Seamus has never had a prolapse, I know it's no fun sitting in the ER with a constipated kiddo. I hope you're all home and feeling better now.
