It's been a very long week

The last time I wrote, Olivia had done her business and was still pushing but seemed to be doing better.  Here's a summary of the rest of week...

Tuesday - Olivia still has fever (over 103 degrees) and the ER called and said her blood was growing bacteria.  Since she still had a fever they needed to redraw the blood to check it again to make sure it's not something serious.  By the time we got to the ER, the bacteria was identified as Staph due to them contaminating the specimen (most likely) so we still had to retest it to be sure.

Wednesday - Clinic went really well and everything is good in CF Land.  She had to have blood taken (third day in a row) to check her vitamin levels and blood-glucose levels.  She still had a fever over 103 so the doctor was giving her a thorough look over and saw that she had an ear infection (her first) - that would explain the fever and constant screaming and crying. He pur her on Augmentin for 7 days to get rid of the ear infection.  He saw that she also grew bacteria in her urine in May so he wanted to check that again via a urine catheter.  Olivia is NOT happy with the week she's having!

Thursday - No doctors today but still having fever over 103 and the screaming and crying is now becoming more intermittent.  Hopefully the antibiotics will have he better soon.

Friday - Olivia saw her pediatrician today for her 15 month check up and immunizations.  The Staph in her blood and bacteria in her urine (which was pseudomonas) did not grow on the re-test so were both most likely due to contamination. Her ear infection is started to get better now that she's had a couple of doses of antibiotics. She still will just start crying every now and then, but she's almost back to her normal wonderful self.

My brother, Ian, was supposed to visit this weekend, but with Olivia being sick we asked him to postpone.  Olivia, Chris and I are all bummed because we haven't seen Ian (or Erin, my other brother) since Christmas and we miss them!

I'm so sorry you have had a rough week! Poor Olivia! I'm praying she starts to feel LOTS better, that the fever stays away and her crying and screeming calms down as well! Next week will be MUCH better...promise!

Question: if she grew staph, and had evidence of an ear infection at cf clinic, did they put her on any abx?
